Durian, The Forbidden Fruit. I finally tried it! Not bad once you get past the, sniff sniff, smell. The thick, prickly rind is discarded, the inside tastes like banana, but sweeter and creamier. They can grow to enormous proportions, like pumpkins. Due to the strong, acrid, permeating, odoriferous stench, they’re banned from hotels and public areas. I have no idea what they’re saying, but I’m laughing my head off just the same. Pad Thai Is A Safe Bet. It’s the first thing I order when trying a new Thai restaurant. It’s considered a national dish, so common that if a chef can’t get it right, you know your better off skipping the rest of the menu. They make a terrific version with shrimp at SSB Coffee food stall in front of the 7-Eleven, corner of Soi 4 and Jomtien Beach Road. Just 60 baht, under $2 US. A big, fresh, salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce, and onion is served with a big thick thwack of mayonnaise on the side for $2.25 ish. Black Strap Chilli Blast! My very own hot weather beverage creation. Made with this sauce, I don’t know the English name, can anyone please translate? They cook the sauce with hot Thai chillies, the main ingredient is molasses. Maybe a little soy or fish sauce. One teaspoon over ice with club soda, and you’re in refreshment city.
