“La Vie En Rose”, one of my all time favorite songs. The Grace Jones version I mean. But it was Edith Piaf who wrote, performed, and made it famous.
“Life in Pink” is the literal translation. Or “life through rose colored glasses” is another common translation.
I found this pink petaled lovely in the rose garden at Golden Gate Park, where I often hang out in between my comings and goings. Relaxing, chilling, and contemplating how wonderful “la vie en rose” is here in flower power San Francisco.
Look at a yellow rose, and what song first comes to mind?
“The Yellow Rose of Texas”, a colorful song about Emily D. West, a freed mulatto slave girl who seduces General Santa Anna, allowing General Sam Houston to surprise attack, and eventually win the Texas War of Independence.
Sound like something right out of an Isabel Allende novel, huh?
The “yellow”, just so you know, refers to “high yellow”, a slightly derogatory phrase describing a light skinned black person.

This mess of flowers was in the restroom at my favorite SF eatery, “La Mediteranee”, on Noe St. near market. The service is impeccable, and there’s always a fresh bouquet in the toilette.
