Should I Or Shouldn’t I?

Archangel Of The West Village, Wigstock NYC 1994.

I was so lucky to get a full length shot of this celestial creature, Wigstock was so crowded that year, 1994. It took more than 20 clicks before I got one that wasn’t obscured by 200,000 queens in wigs.

Should it be included in my up-coming show “Black And White Nostalgia” at STRUT SF in July? It’s a photographic romp through gay San Francisco from the late 70’s to the late 90’s. Yet this image is from New York City.

Hasn’t every gay man in SF been to our bigger, used to be more expensive sister city at least — a hundred times? I’m leaning towards pairing this vintage moment with dozens more local classic must-sees from the same era.

Vintage Gay SF — Who Is He?

20190427_161855 strut show-017336091192138706178..jpg

This image is from a gay pride parade around 1989 or 90. It’s one of dozens under consideration for two photo exhibits this summer, at the Harvey Milk Center in June, and at STRUT SF this July.

Intimidating at first, this tattood hunk of muscle was quite sweet in the end. He took my card but I never heard from him. Several collectors have suggested that he’s made a few adult films.

Waddaya think? Hot or not? Your type? Should I put his picture in the show? Know who he is, and where I could contact him these days?

But, You’re Not Gay, Are You? SF Pride 2012

Youre not gay are you pride 2012 26431711_324945921325726_5713852386963881984_n

This gorgeous man was walking arm-in-arm with an attractive lady friend at gay pride 2012.

There were several other women with them, so I asked the entire group if they would pose for a snapshot.

The women were delighted, and quite rambunctious if not inebriated.

After about a dozen shots, I summoned the nerve to ask “the handsome man” for a few more shots by himself.

Only briefly hesitant, he stepped right up to the challenge, his rowdy posse cheering him on.

He put his hat and sunglasses on, but I guess that wasn’t what I was focusing on.

This image is heavily altered. I had almost as much fun manipulating it as when I originally took the photo.

You can see the original unaltered version, and hundreds more like him in my virtual gallery:

My analog photo collection, in storage. Two and a half decades…

My analog photo collection, in storage. Two and a half decades of San Franciscana starting in the late 70s, in black and white, color, and color slides. It will take hundreds of hours to sort and organize. One or two hours at a time at my leisure of course.
