I’ve Earned That Title

Soft And Flattering

I first came to Thailand in 2005.  I was immediately and pleasantly surprised at how outgoing and friendly people are. I mean, ok most likely they’re trying to sell you something, but the approach is usually soft and flattering.

Just Darling!

Back then, I was most often addressed as “chief”, which meant they figured out already I’m an American. Taxi touts, beach hawkers, food carts, black market music, movies, and porn, hookers, money boys ect. Once they figured out I’m gay, the titled became “dolling”. I assumed that meant darling. Still charming and flattering IMO. “Hey misstaa” was also used.

My New Title

Fast forward ten years later, I no longer have any hair on my head. A few more pounds, and saggy ones at that. My new title: “PA-PAAA”. My friends hate it, but I like it. It’s meant as a complement and not an insult.

See For Yourself

Here’s just a tiny sample of the beautiful people who’ve addressed me as “pa-paaa”, perhaps you can see for yourself why I not the least bit offended:

Happy Ending

After 10 years of happy visits, happy photo adventures, happy meals, happy times, and “happee endings”, I’ve earned that title. Hek at my age, I’m flattered at any attention I can get!

Thank You!

I Will Try Anything Once

It’s the famous Thai green salad, with crab. I’ve seen them make this on the beach and only locals eat it. At first I thought they were scorpions, large black insects thrown in and smashed up with the rest of the mix in those large mortar type wooden bowls that they use just to make this dish.

Fast forward I’m at my favorite local eatery in Jomtien Beach: Ran Nong Som. For just 50 baht, you can get the famous green papaya salad. It’s so hot and spicy it’s incendiary. Typically made with young unripe papaya, nice,  crunchy and shredded. Bean sprouts, shredded carrot, tomato, a few Chinese long beans, crushed peanuts, dried shrimp, fish sauce, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and tons of garlic. Raw garlic. I have learned to order it no spicy please, nit noy garlic (a little bit).

At Ran’s, they also have a version with salted pickled fish or crab. How exciting, I must try it. Well, it is crab, little tiny meatless crab, and not soft shell. Its hard as a rock, tooth crushing hard.

I’m not surprised to see the local Thai people eat this. After all, these are people who will put just about anything in their mouths. They open beer bottles with their teeth, and have some dishes that have like tree stumps and you know bamboo shoots and stuff like that. This hard shell crab must be good for the hair and the nails, I’ll try anything once.

Go Go Chris Atilano Galvan

2014-05-11 Jock @ The Lookout Chris Atilano Galvan 098-MOTION

Whoa! Way to go Google+ Auto-Awesome.

Just upload your photos to Google Plus, select the “Auto-Awesome” option and let it rip. It selects groups of pics that fit well together and smashes them into a delightful animated motion GIF.

This is only the second time I saw Chris, he was go go dancing at the Lookout bar in SF CA, for their weekly Sunday “Jock” party fun raiser for gay sports organisations. This here pic below is the first time, at the 2012 “Up Your Alley” Dore St. festival. The cute little guy is JC Moundrix, of Miami, Fla.

Why My Blog Has Been Idle Since June

It’s just too difficult!

This was me this past June

My computer was being too difficult with bugs, viruses, slower than molasses in January, too many update this and reconfigure that, etc. etc. WordPress, already too difficult for the 80% who try it and give up and move on in less than a month, kept coming out with too many new versions which have to be learned each time and then forgotten for the next update.

Cathartic Release

It just got to a point where the frustration was so great, I took it out on my computer mouse with a hammer. Wish I had taken a video of it and posted it, but the above video pretty much sums up my mental state at the time. Destroying that mouse was a cathartic release, it felt so good!

On Strike Since June

Since then, I’ve been on strike against my blog and my computer. My mental state has improved dramatically! I’ve just been posting to my social networks every now and then via my smartphone.

If and when I come up with a solution for this problem, that running a blog and an internet business is just too challenging for anyone with less than a PHD in rocket science, I will return to blogging. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
